Overview
The following resource present a problem and/or strategy that is found in a majority of Social Studies classrooms. Following each one is an advantage of using the internet, tool, software, or productivity tool inside your classroom. Links to example tools described are included.
Using the Internet for Instruction

Problem/Strategy
Students are not able to visit an historical location due to lack of resources and/or distance. Instead, they will be taking a tour of historical sites for a hands on approach to reinforce historical content via virtual tour. |
Advantage
The advantage of virtual tours is all students can tour the location at their own pace and experience the same areas as they would at the site. This helps to save resources. |
Outcome
Students who may not be fortunate to visit the sites on their own will be able to do so. Students also get a different perspective of the locations as though they were at the site itself. |
Tool Software

Problem/Strategy
Students are having difficulties looking to utilize primary source documents pin pointing to certain areas or focus. |
Advantage
The advantage to using DocsTeach is the focus on the ability to utilize the tool/database of documents from the Library of Congress. Students have a range of time periods and topics to select from. |
Outcome
Students gain a new perceptive to many of the documents and are challenged to examine the documents from an historical perceptive. |
Instructional Software

Problem/Strategy
Students are looking to learn and discuss how to predict and understand the presidential election process. The linked resource will allow students to walk through a simulation of the process. |
Advantage
In using the presidential election simulation, students are given control of walking through the process. The biggest advantage is in students having a hands on approach to determining what factors are concerned in the process. |
Outcome
Students are given a "real life" glimpse into the election process in addition of the factors that play a role in the presidential election. Students will learn how to make choices within the simulation to reach an anticipated outcome. |
Productivity Software

Problem/Strategy
There is a need for supporting videos and lesson plans to be used in various grade levels of social studies. |
Advantage
The advantage to using Discovery Education is the support provided for students and teachers. Information on Discovery Education are connected to standards and provide direct content for students and teachers. This assists teachers by better managing resources and time inside the classroom. |
Outcome
Students' knowledge will increase on topics based upon which videos or lesson plans utilized. |
